Why the Third World is Third...
For those of you unaware, the Pope made statements over the weekend about Islam. In particular, he read a quote from a Medieval king which said that Islam is inherently violent. Muslims across the world are demonstrating in anger about these statements. Before you condem the Pope for making a stupid comment, I submit the following from Reuters...
The group said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross" saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan' Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose head tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (killed by) the sword."

Alright,
This isn't a new war; its been going on for over a thousand years. I mean this is the third Iraq vs. the west war in the last 100 years. This clash of cultures has gone on for 1000+ yrs. The only reason that its in the light now is its all televised for strategic purposes. The western government's want to allign the world against the region and destroy their faith / culture so that we can westernize / develop / pirate their resources. The same reasons that we attacked them 1000 yrs ago in the crusades, the Byzantine invasion, the spanish invasion, the french invasion, the english invasion, and now the US invasion.
We are essentially a colonizing empire, and people do not like being controlled told what to do. Thus, they hate us. I would too. They don't actually even hate us, they hate the idea of us and the aristocratic people who are behind the colonization.
Dude, get the joke. They are pissed because the Pope says they are violent in response they threaten to kill us. Said another way...
Pope: "Muslims are violent"
Muslim: "We are not violent. If you call us violent, we will kill you."
I guess i am not that smart to understand your high level wit.
I think the larger joke could be that we let any idiot that can get a mic and make a soundbite be the spokesperson for a whole race or sect of people (yes I am including the Pope). We then use this soundbite to draw conclusions such as - all Muslims are evil and want to kill Whitey. It's the media that is truely evil.
